Google’s New Instant Search May Hurt Businesses Using Google’s Adwords.
Google announced “google instant” yesterday, letting the world know that there will be a big change to the popular search engine. It seems to work similarly to the auto-complete function that bing and yahoo use but instead of keyword suggestions it actually displays results. New York Times writer, Claire Cain Miller, had this to say:
“Google’s attempt to greatly change the way people search could throw a wrench in the business models of the companies that have latched onto the Google ecosystem.
Analysts said that it was too early to tell how Google Instant would affect search engine marketing and optimization businesses. But because Web pages and ads show up before people finish typing queries, it could be more challenging and expensive for them to pick keywords that catapult their sites to the top results, analysts said.
For example, it has been less expensive for a small hotel in Paris to buy ads that show up when someone searches “Paris boutique hotels in the Marais” than when someone searches “Paris hotels.” But now that Google immediately starts showing results, people may type long queries less often. As a result, advertisers would have to bid for more common terms.
Also, because Google Instant focuses attention on the search box and top results, people could spend less time looking at the ads that show up on the right side of the page.” [Read Full Article Here]
In my opinion, this shouldn’t make too much of a difference in the amount of people clicking on sponsored links. Most of us that use Google on a daily bases have trained ourselves to ignore ads, and while occasionally I actually do click those links, most of my traffic goes to the results.

Easy Truncable Text using Jquery
This code will allow users to hide / extent text inside of a paragraph tag. This can be easily used with PHP or MySQL. An Example of this in action can be found at ereads.com on any book with a sample chapter. ( Example Here )
First We have to create the JS file.
Copy and save the following as “jquery.truncatable.js”:
Next All we need to do is call to the js file and set options in the of our HTML file. limit is how many letters before it cuts off, more is the text link the user will click to expand the paragraph tag, and less is the text the user will click to shrink the paragraph.
Once this is all set you can place a paragraph tag anywhere in the body of your HTML document with the class set to “trunk”. Example Below:
View and Grab files inside of an exe file.
Alpha SF Resource Explorer:
While browsing the net for a way to check what’s inside an exe before running it, I found this article on “addictive tips”.
“Alpha SF Resource Explorer is an application to view the resources included in EXE, DLL, CPL, SYS, SCR, OCX, AMC and AX files which is a ‘PE WIN32 Executable File’ . The idea behind it is to allow users to view the content of an application’s executable files or DLL libraries, etc to extract useful information. In a nutshell: This software runs a lot winzip, you get to view all the files, icons, and registery changes stored in the exe.

Alienware M11x Realtime Performance on battery
Here’s a demo of how the Alienware m11x runs on the battery. I tested out halflife 2 as well as dragon age origins. Both run great even on the lowest power settings.
This should be my last post on this machine, I’ve just been so impressed by it that i had to encourage others to purchase it.
Alienware M11x Light Effects
So after setting up my new alienware m11x I decided to start playing with the fx settings. Overall the settings are very cool. Once you check the box that enables advanced settings, you can set colors for each application.
Heres a video I made demonstrating it.
It’s not 100% perfect. Sometimes the lights will flicker when stuff is loading. Also when running games from steam the colors go back to the default setting. It sets the color for steam.exe, but when launching games, the computer sees it as running another executable. I’m sure if you dig around the steam program file you can set it up though.

The easiest way to rip an ISO from a CD or DVD
I just Became the proud owner of an alienware m11x. The machine is amazing, but I doesn’t come with a CD/DVD drive. So I had to come up with a way to access my DVDs and CDs on my new machine. After googling and talking to friends of mine I decided to create an ISO (which is a copy of the CD) and put the ISO file on my new laptop via an external hard drive transfer. Then I would have to use somewhere to run the ISO like it was a normal CD.
Moving back to the point of this post, I needed to wade through the internet’s crappiest free somewhere to find a good way to create a solid ISO file from CDs. That’s when I came across ISO Recorder. It’s a simple software that lets you rip the CD without launching some crappy software. You install it, then you can right right-click on your CD drive and click “create copy(ISO)”. Usually takes about 2-3 minutes. After that you have a clean CD image.
